Disasters, whether natural or man-made, disrupt communities and societies in profound ways. Recovery from such events is a complex, multifaceted process that involves the coordination of multiple resources, efforts, and stakeholders. A critical aspect of disaster recovery is the role played by social networks, which are informal and formal systems of relationships that facilitate the flow of information, resources, and support. These networks—comprised of family, friends, community groups, NGOs, and government agencies—are essential for mobilizing relief efforts and supporting individuals and communities as they rebuild their lives. This article examines the role of social networks in disaster recovery efforts, with a particular focus on how these networks function in the Pakistani context. It explores the dynamics of social networks in disaster recovery, their benefits and challenges, and how they contribute to effective recovery processes. The article highlights case studies, provides key insights, and offers recommendations for strengthening these networks to improve disaster resilience.References
